GBM Gleisbaumechanik has started assembling the first newly developed LB8 carriage for Hamburger Hochbahn AG at our GBM plant in Kirchmöser. The undercarriage and wheel sets are currently being installed—an important milestone in the project.

One vehicle, many possibilities

The LB8 was developed specifically for use on the Hamburg subway network and is characterized by its exceptional versatility. The vehicle is designed for the transport and rapid rail-to-road transfer of various load carriers:

  • Truck-compatible roll-off containers according to DIN 70322
  • ISO 20-foot containers in accordance with ISO 668
  • Functional modules based on ISO containers

This flexibility enables the Hamburger Hochbahn AG to efficiently handle a wide variety of maintenance tasks on the subway infrastructure with a single vehicle type—from material transport to specialized operational modules

Quality and Durability

The LB8 is designed for a service life of at least 50 years. As the general contractor, GBM assumes full system responsibility - from design and manufacturing through commissioning to the provision of all necessary documentation and acceptance certificates.

Up to 15 vehicles are planned under the existing framework agreement. The first individual order comprises five carriages.
